Nestled in the Bridger-Teton National Forest just a short drive from Jackson Hole, Togwotee Mountain Lodge offers 750 acres of untracked lines, 1,600 vertical feet, and an average snowfall of over 300 inches per year. Guests are welcomed for just a day of riding, or for a package stay at the resort itself.

Riders average 6-10 runs per day and a total of 8,000 to 16,000 vertical feet, depending on the ability of your group. If desired, the guides will lead a bootpack or skin route to get you to those lines the snowcat can’t quite reach. A lunch, hot drinks, and deserts are provided in the heated snowcat on rides back up. The operation provides each guest with the use of an avalanche beacon, probe, shovel, and backpack, and of course the safety training to go along with it.

For an extra $50 per person, roundtrip transportation from Jackson Hole or Teton Village is available (5 person minimum). Other great winter activities, including snowmobiling, sled dog tours, and national forest snowmobile tours are also offered at the Lodge.

Cat Skiing with Grand Targhee Resort near Jackson Hole

Offering up a possible 20,000 vertical feet of powdery delight on Peaked Mountain, the 600-acre Targhee Resort cat skiing operation is a great way to ski some untracked lines when all of the powder at the nearby resorts has been tracked out. The guides will lead you through steep tree runs, gladed shallower runs, and expansive bowls with views of the gorgeous Tetons all around.

An average of 14,000 to 20,000 vertical feet per day is obtained by cruising an average of 10-12 runs at 2,000 feet each. The greatest vertical descent is 2,200 feet. Grand Targhee Resort operates a maximum of 2 snowcats, depending on conditions, with 12 riders per cat. You may choose from half day trips ($249/day) or full day trips ($349/day). This year, 10 new runs were added to the snowcat operation area.

Ski rentals are available, including models from K2, Volkl, Line, Icelantic and Armada. Snowboard rentals include offereings from Burton, Arbor, LibTech and Never Summer.
